Learn the basics of salsa dancing through four sessions
I took a salsa class this summer and I would like to pass it on!
Moves covered will include basic steps, cross-body leads, left and right turns, and (if we get to it) inside turns. Choreographed sequences will involve stitching together those steps through a few different hand connection configurations.
My spring course "intro to partner dance" focused on feel, posture, stance, and connection. We will touch on that, and it will be important, because you won't be able to execute the moves quickly without holding your frame well. But this course will focus on the moves.
A typical session will be slightly longer than an hour, start at about 5:45pm, and consist of approximately:
- 5 minutes warmup/review
- 20 minutes teaching and practicing moves
- 20 minutes teaching and practicing a choreographed sequence
- 20 minutes practicing led/followed improvisation with the moves you know so far
I will approve applications to the class once I get enough applications to know we have critical mass (probably about 6).
