Vijnana-Bhairava Tantra meditation technique sampler
Interested in exploring new meditation techniques? The Vijnana-Bhairava tantra is an ancient sacred text from the Kashmir Shaiva tradition, containing 112 practical meditations. Framed as a conversation between Shiva (Bhairava) and the Goddess (Bhairavi), it claims to offer 112 doorways into the true nature of reality/consciousness. The VBT describes that true nature in the following way: “Beyond reckoning in space or time; without direction or locality; impossible to represent; ultimately indescribable; Blissful with the experience of that which is inmost; a field of awareness free of mental constructs.” Tradition holds that any one of these techniques, practiced correctly, could lead to direct awakening.
In each class we will cover the Sanskrit translation of 2-3 verses on similar techniques and discuss some of the theology behind the text before settling in for a ~30 minute meditation, leaving time for discussion after.
Inexperienced meditators or anyone coming from a different contemplative tradition strongly encouraged to sign up! I’m curious to explore the similarities and differences between classical tantra and other paths.

Bhairavi C.
Bhairavi has spent the past couple of years learning about classical Kashmir Shaiva tantra, and the VBT is her favorite text since it has her name (almost) in the title. This series is less "expert holds forth" and more "enthusiastic student invites you along for the ride." Come with questions and curiosity!
